Our speaker for this month is Mr. Gene Franklin, who has been a pilot since 1972, earning his wings at Weiss Airport.

He joined the St. Louis Soaring Association a couple of years later. After obtaining his glider rating he also earned his CFIG 2 years later.

Mr. Franklin has over 1000 hours as a glider instructor over a 30 year period, with nearly 4000 glider tows as well. He has been awarded the SLSA "flight instructor of the year award" several years in a row. Gene has held every position on the board of the St. Louis Soaring Association.

Other activities include membership in the Gateway Aerostatic Association (Balloon Club), founder of the Taildraggers LTD flying club, membership in AOPA, SSA, EAA, and eventually being one of the founders of the Silver Creek Glider Club and the development of the Gliderport near New Douglas. Gene's wife is also a glider pilot.

Our private room opens up at 1800 with Dinner ($18/person) being served at 1900. Gene will make his presentation at 2000.

Plan to attend the first Missouri State Aviation Day on April 25th at Jefferson City, Capital Rotunda, starting at 11 AM. This is your opportunity to influence the legislators about the importance of general aviation to the state.

Pilot volunteers are needed to participate in the MPA sponsored state wide fly-in to all hard surface airports in Missouri. St Louis Chapter now has five planes participating to visit 18 airports and we need more. Come join us. Please contact Gary Johnson at AvDay@MoPilots.US or call 314-965-1789 to volunteer.
