Wednesday June 7th

Our guest speaker will be artist and pilot Ken Koteh. Ken served two years in the army including a year with a South Vietnamese infantry unit deployed in the Mekong delta. After discharge from the service he began working as an illustrator for a major company in Denver, Colorado.

In 76' Ken focused on creating aerospace illustration, creating for industry as well as private commissions. In 1980 he was offered a position with McDonnell-Douglas aircraft in St. Louis. While with McDonnell-Douglas he created numerous illustrations and paintings of their products. He was cleared for top secret work and created illustrations for many black hole projects including the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF). One of his personal accounts was print material created in support of the Blue Angels flight demonstration team.

In 89' he was assigned the job of creating images used in the 50th anniversary of the company. While at Mac he continued to free lance illustrations to other aircraft companies, including Fairchild, Falcon jet and Sabreliner. In 1990 he left the company and devoted full time to free lance work. His clients included Anheuser Busch, Crown publishing, Butler Aviation, and John Deere. In 2001 he and his wife Dottie created an art gallery in their hangar at Creve Coeur airport. This gallery displays for sale prints and original aviation works. In 1991, Ken was honored by the American Society of Aviation Artists with membership as a Fellow with the society.

Ken started his thirty three years of flying in gliders, flying off the mountains of Colorado. He competed in the first nationals held in Telluride, Colorado. He then trained in sailplanes and later added a power rating, training to tow gliders, with over 3500 tows to his credit. Ken is currently building a full scale Fokker DR-1 Triplane at his hangar at Creve Coeur airport.
