The Red River Run Challenge Starts This Weekend!

OKLAHOMA CITY – In celebration of National and Oklahoma Aviation and Aerospace Day on August 19th, pilots are invited to complete the Red River Run by visiting at least 6 out of the 7 participating airports listed in the challenge on the Fly Oklahoma mobile app within a 24-hour period.  Pilots will earn a custom patch from the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission upon completion.

Airports listed in the challenge include Hollis, Frederick, Healdton, Ardmore Downtown Executive (there are two airports in Ardmore – make sure it is K1F0), Madill, Durant, and Hugo.

The Fly Oklahoma mobile app allows pilots to explore the Oklahoma Airport System and serves as a digital Airfield Directory (AFD), Recreational Aviation Directory, and a digital passport system which allows pilots to access airport information across the state of Oklahoma, compete to earn various badges upon visiting Oklahoma airports, and stay up to date with aviation events. On Saturday, August 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., you can view dozens of vintage planes touching down on the 2,000-foot grass airstrip near beautiful Lake Oologah. Visitors can walk up to the planes, talk with the pilots and even enjoy the classic car show during the day’s festivities.

In conjunction with the fly-in, the Will Rogers Birthplace Ranch will hold its Seventh Annual Day of Remembrance with other regional airports around the country. The day commemorates not only the loss of Will and Wiley, but all aviation enthusiasts who lost their lives pursuing their passion. The moment of silence and commemoration will take place at 10:00 a.m.
